On a recent riding trip to Moab Utah, I tangled with a Juniper bush and unfortunately the bush won. Upon inspecting my bike I noticed that a branch had pierced my seat cover leaving a hole about the size of a quarter. Having a couple of days left of riding and no spare seat cover, I noticed my tube patching kit in my toolbox. I placed a silver dollar size patch over the hole. It looked like it would cover so I proceeded to install the patch as I would on a tube.
I hoped it would a least keep the seat together long enough to finish the trip knowing that when I get home I would need to replace the cover. To my surprise the patch lasted the rest of the trip with know problem. In fact it is still on and appears to be a permanent solution, with over 800 miles of saddle time over 4 trips. (See photo) Now I know some would say quit being so cheap and buy a new cover, and I will someday. But for now it is staying on for the sake of R and D.
